X-ray
X-rays are quick and good for bones, joints and the chest. They use a small dose of radiation.
DEXA
A DEXA scan measures bone density at the hip and spine, to check for osteoporosis and estimate fracture risk.
- Pre-scan telephone consultation with a GMC-registered GP
- The scan at a partner imaging centre
- Consultant radiologist report
- GP review of the report with a written summary
- A GP call if anything abnormal is found
A £25 booking fee secures your GP call and comes off the price.
Common questions
How long does it take?
An X-ray takes about 10 minutes. A DEXA scan takes 10 to 20 minutes.
Do I need a referral from my NHS GP?
No. Our GP provides the referral after your pre-scan call.
How quickly can I be scanned?
The imaging centre contacts you once we send the referral, usually within a few working days. Scans are not carried out on the day you book.
