- 02
Speak to a GP
A GMC-registered GP phones you to check the scan is right for you and safe to go ahead.
- 03
Have your scan
We send the referral. The imaging centre contacts you to arrange a date — scans are not on the same day.
- 04
Get your results
A consultant radiologist reports the scan and your GP talks you through what it means.
What the GP call covers
Before any scan a GMC-registered GP phones you. It usually takes ten minutes and covers your symptoms, whether the scan you have chosen is the right one, and whether it is safe. For MRI that means asking about pacemakers, metal implants and claustrophobia; for CT, about pregnancy and kidney function if contrast is needed.
If a different scan would answer the question better, the GP will say so and we change the booking. If a scan is not appropriate at all, we refund the balance.
Where your scan happens
We do not scan at our Bamber Bridge clinic. Your scan takes place at a partner imaging centre – there are more than 60 across England, in hospitals, diagnostic centres and retail park units. We send the referral and the centre contacts you directly to agree a date and time. Scans are never on the same day as booking.
Your results
A consultant radiologist reports every scan. The report comes to us, your GP reviews it and calls you to explain what it shows, what it means and what should happen next – whether that is reassurance, treatment, a referral to a specialist or a further test. We send you the report as a password-protected PDF, so you can pass it to your NHS GP or a specialist whenever you need to.

Common questions
Do I need a referral from my NHS GP?
No. Our GP provides the referral after your pre-scan call. You do not need to involve your NHS GP, though we send you the report so you can share it with them.
How quickly can I be scanned?
It depends on the centre and the scan. The imaging centre contacts you directly once the referral is sent, usually within a few working days. Scans are not carried out on the day you book.
How long do results take?
Most consultant radiologist reports arrive within a few working days. Your GP then calls you to go through them.
Can you scan children?
Our service is for adults aged 18 and over.
Can I use this if I live in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland?
Not at present. Our scan service is for patients living in England.
What if the scan finds something serious?
Your GP will call you, explain the finding and arrange the next step – an urgent specialist referral where needed. For urgent findings we also contact your NHS practice directly, and we send you the report to take to them.
Is the £25 booking fee refundable?
The £25 secures your GP call and comes off the price of the scan. It is non-refundable once the call has taken place, but if the GP advises against the scan we refund everything you have paid beyond it.
