What CT shows
CT uses X-rays and a computer to make cross-sectional images. It is quick, and especially good for the chest, the abdomen, the sinuses and complex bone problems.
Radiation
CT uses a dose of radiation, so a doctor has to justify every scan. Tell us if you are or could be pregnant.
CT lung assessment
A low-dose scan of the lungs, available at Salford and Milton Keynes.

Common questions
How long does a CT scan take?
A few minutes of scanning, longer with contrast.
Do I need a referral from my NHS GP?
No. Our GP provides the referral after your pre-scan call.
How quickly can I be scanned?
The imaging centre contacts you once we send the referral, usually within a few working days. Scans are not carried out on the day you book.
